PORTMEIRICON 2011 RETROSPECTIVE

Photographs: ARNO BAUMGAERTEL, AL BEALE, and DEBS McDOUGALL.
Animation and editing: LARRY HALL.

The Justine Lord segment (also filmed by Al and Debs) is a short extract from the full-length interview which will be available for viewing by Six Of One members in the future.
Similarly, "Resolution" is a trailer for the full film. A longer trailer is available on Vimeo (see below).

If you're unable to open the presentation to the right, then your browser doesn't support Flash. Possibly you're an iPad user and if so then, sorry, Apple have decreed that you can't view stuff created in "Flash", even though it's used on 90% of all websites, including this one.

However, all the videos used in the presentation are available for viewing seperately via Vimeo, a video streaming site that provides iPad support. Not so elegant but at least you get to see them.

Portmeiricon 2011 took place over the weekend, commencing on Friday the 8th April right through to Sunday evening and, as usual, there was a formidable array of activities, both in and out of doors.

With glorious weather and a greater number of registrations than ever, the convention was a stunning success, with even daytime visitors enquiring at the gatehouse when the next one would be taking place.

LIVE PLAY

Outdoor events included a human chess game recreating the events in "Checkmate" and a colourful "Free For All" election parade with banners, costumes and mini-moke taxis and incorporating many of the set pieces in the episode.

Live theatre has always been a feature of the conventions and this year was no exception, with episode recreations happening all over the village.

Large-screen video presentations in the Hercules Hall included both commercial and privately produced presentations, including "Everyone Has To Start Somewhere", a documentary on Patrick McGoohan's early life narrated by Jane Merrow, and "The Lighthouse Itself Is The Rocket," featuring a Six Of One group visit to the "Girl Who Was Death" lighthouse at Beachy Head.

All registered visitors received a convention pack that included a glossy souvenir A4 programme with colour cover, listing all events complete with photographs and background information. Also in the pack was a handy "short-form" programme with all events printed on one page in "at a glance" format, a colour Portmeiricon 2011 badge and an A4 programme supplement.

We even had a visit from No 6's car ... well, a modern replica actually. A red version was also spotted.

JUSTINE LORD AT PORTMEIRICON 2011

The star guest at the April 2011 event was Justine Lord, better known to devotees of "The Prisoner" series as Sonia Schnipps, "The Girl Who Was Death". Justine Lord has long been sought-after as a guest and has not given interviews for many years and this was therefore an exciting announcement.

In addition to the interview in the prime time slot on the Saturday evening, her episode was shown the following day on the giant video screen in high definition with Justine adding comments and background information as the episode unfolded.

Another original cast member, Jane (The Schizoid Man) Merrow, also made an appearance albeit on video. In "Resolution", Jane reprises her role as Alison, the duplicitous Number 24, returning to The Village some forty years on from the events in "The Schizoid Man" to find it deserted. Or is it?
